LEED™

First Mesa Elementary School
Baca Dlo' Ay Azhi Consolidated Replacement School

Dyron Murphy Architects, P.C. completed the first LEED™ certified school in the state of New Mexico. The Baca Dlo’ay Azhi Community School is a 79,000 square foot elementary school that incorporates both environmentally sound and culturally appropriate design and construction elements.

The 75,000 square foot First Mesa Elementary School in Polacca, Arizona was our second LEED™ certified project, and proved that certification is possible even for facilities in remote locations. This is the first LEED™ certified school in Arizona.

The US Department of Labor (USDOL) Job Corps Dormitory in Albuquerque, NM, is LEED™ Gold certified and is the first for the USDOL. The building is designed to achieve at least 45% energy savings, and

incorporates an extremely high percentage of recycled and regionally produced materials. The mechanical and plumbing systems are simple and exceptionally energy-efficient. Many of the technologies and strategies employed with this project will be applicable to future projects.

The Lawton Hospital Expansion & Renovation Project in Oklahoma is the first Indian Health Service (IHS) project to be LEED™ certified. This project earned a LEED™ Silver rating in January 2008.

That Institue of American Indian Arts Center for Lifelong Education and the Ch’ooshgai Community School are our most recent LEED™ Gold certified projects.

We currently have several projects in various stages of design that are also expected to be LEED™ certified. These include the Navajo Nation Department of Transportation Center (targeted for LEED™ Gold), Rough

Rock Community School Phase I & II (targeted for LEEDTM Silver), and the Institute of American Indian Arts Science & Technology Center (targeted for LEED™ Silver).

Our approach to LEED™ involves a reliance on teamwork and a system that includes the owner and contractor to the fullest possible extent. DMA offers a total team approach in which each member of the project team has a clear understanding of the goals and objectives of the LEED™effort, and is committed to achieving them at the lowest possible cost.

There is no question that the initial costs associated with a LEED™ certified building are higher than conventional construction. We believe that the additional design, documentation and material costs are more than offset by reduced operating and maintenance expenses. We will work with you to develop a budget and LEED™ strategy that meets your specific needs.
